Graduate Assistant for Residential Education  Work Apply Now Icon

The Graduate Assistant position is a 10-month assistantship with the Office of Residence Life. The Graduate Assistant will report to the Senior Residence Life Manager and will work with Residence Life Coordinators to coordinate educational programming efforts, train the residence life staff in educational programming, and advise the Residence Hall Association.

The Graduate Assistant for Residential Education is responsible for helping fulfill the Office Residence Life’s mission to create a safe and secure living environment that promotes the social and personal development of our students.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required with experience in residence life, leadership development, or student activities. Experience with Residence Hall Associations is preferred. Graduate Assistants must be accepted to the Columbus State University Graduate School and be enrolled full time in the Counseling or Higher Education Master’s Program. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, word processing skills, as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement Fall Resident Assistant Training and monthly in-service sessions.

  • Coordinate the Resident Assistant Selection Process.

  • Serve as graduate advisor of the Residence Hall Associations.

  • Assist with maintaining database of residence life programming proposals and evaluations.

  • Coordinate residential recognition program to recognize students for academic achievement and residence life activities.

  • Coordinate end of semester residence life staff recognition events.

  • Inventory and maintain supplies for programming resource areas

  • Create and maintain calendar of all residence life programming efforts

  • Act as liaison between Student Activities Council and Residence Life

  • Provide general assistance to Residence Life Staff with programming efforts

  • Create and distribute quarterly Residence Life Newsletter

  • Serves on the Residence Life Emergency On Call Rotation

  • Assist in designing a comprehensive living-learning program

  • Maintain web presence for all living-learning communities

  • Conduct assessment of living learning programs

  • Publish monthly living learning community newsletter

  • Market living learning communities to incoming and returning students

Compensation

$10.00 per hour/20 hours per week in addition to private apartment with all utilities included.

Please note that position does not included tuition remission.
